WORTH A MENTION: The American Mansion's Top-10 Mega Mansions In California


Here's my Top-10 list for mega mansions in the state of California. It should not be a surprise that the majority of the mega mansions on this list are in Los Angeles County. (P.S. The cover mansion above is not included on the list!)


10 : 401 El Cerrito Avenue, Hillsborough, CA 94010 is a historical Georgian Colonial mega mansion affectionately known as "Western White House". Built in 1915, the stately home was redesigned in 1930 by Julia Morgan. It is sited on just under 3 acres of land and boasts 25,000+/- square feet of living space with 11 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. It is currently listed for $25 million.


09 : 901 N Alpine Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 is a palatial French-inspired stone mega mansion located on one of the most coveted streets in Los Angeles. Built in 2012 and sited on nearly 2 acres of land, it features approximately 24,977 square feet of living space with 11 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, and an expansive ballroom to dance the night way. The imposing residence is currently listed for $73 million.


08 : 1966 Carla Ridge, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 is a contemporary-driven mega mansion sited on just over an acre of land in Trousdale Estates. The 20,541 square foot cliffside home was designed by architect Noah Walker and built in 2019. It has 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, a 14-seat home theater, an 80-foot infinity-edge swimming pool, and a 2,000 square foot rooftop deck. It was sold in December 2020 for $35 million.


07 : 627 Carcassonne Road, Los Angeles, CA 90077 is a 28,000 square foot contemporary-style mega mansion that was designed by Paul McClean. It was built in 2019 and situated on just over an acre of land. It has 9 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, and a 160-foot long overflow swimming pool. It is currently not for sale but has been listed for as much as $65 million.


06 : 10701 Bellagio Road, Los Angeles, CA 90077 is another mega mansion on this list that was designed by architect Paul McClean. The French manor known as "TEN701 Bellagio Road" was built in 2018 and is situated on an acre of land in the heart of Old Bel Air. It features 27,000 square feet of living space with 8 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. It was sold in April 2021 for $39 million.


05 : 330 S Mapleton Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024 is a mega mansion fashioned after a stone Palladian villa in Italy. Known as "Three Hundred Thirty", the modernized abode was built in 1993 and is situated on just over an acre of land. It boasts 31,624 square feet of living space with 6 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and a bevy of formal spaces designed for grand-scale entertaining. It was sold in July 2021 for just under $47.7 million.


04 : 277 Saint Pierre Road, Los Angeles, CA 90077 is an 8-bedroom, 20-bathroom historical mega mansion located in posh Bel Air. The Mediterranean-inspired residence was originally built in 1927 and completely modernized and outfitted with grand-scale living in mind. Known as "Villa St. Pierre", it features a total of 36,000 square feet of living space with some 20,000 square feet acting as an expansive subterranean entertainment haven. It is currently not for sale but has been listed for as much as $48 million.


03 : 271 S Mapleton Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024 is located on Billionaire Row a short walk from the famed Playboy Mansion, "Three Hundred Thirty, and the former Spelling Manor. It was built in 2013 and is situated on just over an acre of land. Known as "il Magione", the Mediterranean-inspired mega mansion is completely furnished by Fendi and features approximately 31,450 square feet of living space with 8 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. It is currently listed for $64.95 million.


02 : 944 Airole Way, Los Angeles, CA 90077 Simply known as "The One", this hilltop giga mansion is the brainchild of super developer Nile Niami that was designed by architect Paul McClean. A monumental spec project that has spanned some 10 years, "The One" sits on a 4-acre Bel Air promontory with sweeping city and ocean views. It boasts a jaw-dropping 105,000 square feet of living space with a total of 21 bedrooms and 42 bathrooms. Toting a price tag of $295 million, it is poised to be the most expensive home ever sold in the United States.


01 : 594 S Mapleton Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90024 is located on LA's Billionaire Row in the Holmby Hills neighborhood and known as "The Manor" (formerly Spelling Manor). Crowned as Los Angeles County's largest home for nearly three decades, the 123-room French chateau-inspired estate was built in 1990 for the late Aaron Spelling and is situated on just under 5 acres of land. In 2011, Billionaire heiress Petra Ecclestone purchased the 56,500 square foot residence from Candy Spelling for $85 million. She spent some years completely modernizing the expansive 14-bedroom, 27-bathroom residence before listing it for $200 million and relisting it for $160 million. In fall 2019, "The Manor" was sold to Canadian billionaire businessman Daryl Katz for $119.75 million.
